Lake Manyara National Park

The best time to visit Lake Manyara is July to October for game drives, a cultural tour, mountain biking, abseiling and forest walks. The hotter and wetter November to June period is the best for canoeing and bird watching.

 

Described by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I have seen in Africa”, Lake Manyara offers a different experience to your safari. Named after the seasonal alkaline lake at its heart, Manyara provides an excellent opportunity for bird watching and canoeing in the wet season November to June and traditional game drives year round. Lake Manyara is an ideal starting or finishing point for the northern circuit.

In addition to its great flamingo population, Lake Manyara is perhaps most famous for the tree climbing lions who call it home. Found nowhere else in Tanzania, these agile predators cut a striking figure as they lounge lazily in acacia trees. You can get can enjoy spectacular view of the marshland and its inhabitants – waterfowl, hippo, wildebeest, elephants, giraffes, zebra, cape buffalo, Kirk’s dik-dik and klipspringer, as well as many baboons.
