Lake Victoria and Rubondo Island

The island is uninhabited by humans; the park’s beaches and virgin forest are a sight to behold. It has an untouched equatorial forest and is a great destination for a secluded, private island getaway. Rubondo Island is home to some of protected wildlife like chimpanzee, elephant families and the extremely endangered shy situanga antelope.

 

Lake Victoria is the world’s second largest lake; it is a crucial breeding ground for Tilapia and enormous Nile perch. There is a huge diversity of flora and fauna, and densely forested mix of evergreen and semi-deciduous trees. The island is also famous for its great variety of birds species, both migratory and native, including grey parrots and African fish eagle. Exploring the islands within the park is an opportunity for exciting day trips. Rubondo Island National Park offers visitors a break from game viewing in the tranquil peace of a lake shore setting.

 

 

In Rubondo island you can see animals like otters, bushbucks, mongoose, suni antelope. Pythons, crocodiles and hippos are found in the swampy areas of the lake and the island is also home to some introduced species like black and white colobus monkeys, chimpanzee, giraffe and elephants. A variety of butterflies are easily viewable.
