Our customised approach doesn’t mean that your safari will cost you more, on the contrary. We are a small company; when you contact us you will almost certainly speak with one of the partners. Our overheads are small and so you’re not paying for layers of administration and costly offices. We usually arrange a complete journey, with flights, but you can book the flights and we can organise everything else. We aim to be transparent about costs and are willing to break these down for you.
Malaika Safaris’ founding partners are Carol and Maryam. They met at university in Tanzania while both studying for their Masters in Business Administration. Maryam and Carol had common interests and became good friends, sharing their love of the outdoors, travel, good food, and music. With Malaika Safaris you get your safari organised by a small team; we are passionate about what we do and our greatest reward is knowing that our customers have had a fantastic safari, which can combine discovery, adventure, inspiration, learning, fun, and ‘away from it all’ relaxation.
We have over 15 years combined experience and knowledge, and have built strong relationships. We have established ourselves with lodges in the national parks and accommodation and other service providers across Tanzania. This experience, our commitment and our passion and our high ethical standards mean that we deliver what we promise.
We are based and born in Africa. Malaika Safaris aim to plan carefully designed overland adventures, to explore Africa’s vast and diverse landscapes, amazing and diverse wildlife, discover local crafts, art, experience local culture and food, and visit unique archaeological sites and the cradle of early humankind. You will have unforgettable memories, of the kind still told to children, grandchildren and friends many years later. We grew up in East Africa and are travellers ourselves. We haven’t just read about the safari destinations, we have been there, and still travel so we even further develop our knowledge. We have explored on foot and by 4×4, and travelled by almost every means available: flying, bus, local daladala minibuses, motorbike taxis (bodaboda), traditional dhow boats, even in and on the back of trucks. We design an itinerary just for you, whether you are looking for a luxurious or rustic experience, and anything in-between. And we will work with you to best align your dreams and wishes with your timescales and budget.
Malaika Safaris core values are culturally sensitive and ecologically responsible tourism, and we follow fair trade principles. We are a business but are driven by our real passion for what we do. We believe that our responsible approach to safaris and tourism in Africa can help preserve the wildlife and unique diversity and wilderness, and benefit local communities, as well as durably inspiring and enriching you.
Conservation: With ecotourism as a core value, we aim to contribute to the conservation and restoration of wilderness and wildlife, and to support local communities. For each safari bought with us we will make a contribution on your behalf to support orphans and vulnerable children and families at the Happy Families Children’s Village near Arusha, which is operated by The Small Things (www.thesmallthings.org) . This and our involvement in promoting education, sustainability and community development, means that as your memories of a wonderful safari endure back home, you will know that you have helped put an enduring smile on the faces of children.
