Mahale national park gives you the opportunity to see the largest known population of chimpanzees, with their most unique grooming behaviour, dense flora and fauna. Mahale is the only location where chimpanzees and lions are known to coexist. See Lake Tanganyika – which is one of the richest fresh water ecosystems in the world with more than 2,000 aquatic species. The lake is among largest in the world, longest and second deepest. It is a great place for snorkelling, swimming, and fishing. In the dry season (May to October) Mahale National Park offers some of the best options for walking safaris, trekking, camping and hiking, and the opportunity to climb the imposing Mount Nkungwe provides the option to track the incredible primates. The park’s dense undergrowth and mountainous setting make it a place for the physically fit, but it rewards intrepid explorers with an extraordinary wealth of animal and bird life.
